National Seniors Australia has been announced as the Official Healthy Ageing Partner of the 2019 Australian Masters Games, following the establishment of a broader partnership with the Confederation of Australian Sport (CAS).
"The Games are about showing the wider community the benefits of sports and we welcome National Seniors Australia on board to help spread this message and get more Australians active," Australian Masters Games General Manager Gary O'Donnell said.
National Seniors CEO Professor John McCallum said that, “preventing and managing disease and disability were key priorities in the quest for healthy ageing”.
“Research, across the board, points to an active lifestyle – including physical, social, and cognitive activity – as a key factor in reducing the likelihood of chronic disease and a fundamental part of healthy ageing,” Prof. McCallum said.
In a nod to the Australian Masters Games’ ‘Better with Age – Vintage 2019’ theme, Prof. McCallum said that staying connected and active is an important way to support independence, physical and mental wellbeing and generally get the most out of later life.
